IF - topic of the week: chicken

"Regard it as just as desirable to build a chicken house as to build a cathedral."
 Frank Lloyd Wright

When I read this weeks topic I remembered the chicken my grandfather had when I was a child. What fascinated me most was the rooster with his iridescent feathers, the colours ranging from green to black. Whenever I visited my grandpa I had to go to the chicken house to admire the rooster. When my primary school teacher left at the end of the second year, I even made one of plasticine and gave it to her as a farewell present.

Having worked as an architectural drafter for several years I am of course acquainted with the works of Frank Lloyd Wright. His most famous private building (and the one I like best - apart from the Guggenheim Museum, N.Y.) being  'Falling Water' I combined the two: the chicken actually live in a chicken house resembling it.

Also I wanted the house to look like an architectural drawing and contrasting the realism of the chicken.

  1. I love your illustration and I love your post! I especially enjoyed the part about your grandfather's chicken. The backdrop of Frank Lloyd Wright's architecture and his quote is so clever. I hope to see more of your work.

  2. Hello Heike, Thank you very much for your comment! Very nice! It is good to know that I'm not the only one with that scanner problem.
I like your illustration very much, great contrast!

  3. The juxtaposition of the architecture and chickens is brilliant! Plus, I love "Falling Water" too!
